Looking for suggestions on documentation when releasing Next of Kin Items. Who decides on the Next of Kin? How are you notified on who to release Next of Kin personal items to? Is there any paperwork that the Next of Kin has to provide to ensure they are the next of kin? When releasing items to the Next of Kin does your Legal get involved? Any comments would be helpful. Our agency does the same. Our detective will determine next of KIN. At the end of the day if weeks later its bought to our attention that a will or something else was in play and we were not aware of it becomes a civil issue with the parties. Example we released to the wife but a will stated the item belongs to the son. Our legal has given us advise on this. If we are made a wear that a probate or something filed in the courts is happening we have to wait for the out come of it before releasing.
