Evidence Vehicles
Hello everyone.
I’m looking for some guidance from agencies that manage evidence vehicles, particularly with offsite storage.
Our unit does not typically handle vehicles, but I’ve been asked to gather information on current practices. I’m interested in how vehicles are stored (specifically offsite), what security measures are in place (e.g., cameras, controlled/keycard access, etc.), and how chain of custody is documented and maintained.
Any information you’re willing to share would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I use to wok for Sanford Police that has off site storage. The vehicles normally where owed to the agency in-house processed and than towed to the vehicle lot that had a 10 foot fence that had bribed wires at the top and a camera that faced the enclosed lot. it was locked with two different pad locks and the towing facility was also enclosed with a brick fence. We had access to the cameras via a login/ cloud storage. If any damaged windows ect. we used cling wrap for vehicles (crash wrap) that would help from the elements. We would also get vehicle tarps and secure those the best of our abilities. COC reflected its movement and location. You could contact them for more information
